What is SAP SuccessFactors?
SAP SuccessFactors is SAP's cloud Human Experience Management (HXM) suite. It replaces — or complements — on-premise SAP HCM with a SaaS platform delivered from SAP's data centres and updated on a quarterly release cycle. The suite spans core HR, payroll, talent, learning, performance & goals, compensation, succession and people analytics.
For most customers the journey starts with Employee Central as the system of record, then expands into payroll and talent modules.
What is Employee Central (EC)?
Employee Central is the core HR module. It holds employee, employment, job and position data, plus the organisational structure (legal entity, business unit, division, department, location). Unlike on-premise HCM's fixed infotypes, EC uses the Metadata Framework (MDF) so the data model is configurable per country and per business need.
- • Foundation Objects & Generic Objects (MDF) for org and reference data
- • Position Management for headcount control and reporting lines
- • Workflows & Business Rules for HR processes (hire, transfer, promotion, termination)
- • Role-Based Permissions (RBP) for fine-grained access control
- • Employee Self-Service (ESS) and Manager Self-Service (MSS) out of the box
Moving from on-premise SAP HCM to Employee Central
Most enterprises today run SAP HCM (PA, OM, PT, PY) on ECC or S/4HANA. With SAP HCM mainstream maintenance committed through 2027 and extended options beyond, customers are planning structured moves to Employee Central for core HR while protecting the payroll investment they already operate.
Typical transition patterns:
- • Side-by-side — EC for core HR and talent, on-premise HCM payroll remains, integrated via SAP-delivered replication.
- • Full cloud — EC for core HR plus Employee Central Payroll (ECP) for payroll, retiring on-premise HCM.
- • Hybrid by country — ECP rolled out country-by-country, with HCM payroll running where ECP isn't yet localised.
Employee Central + Employee Central Payroll
ECP is the SAP HCM payroll engine, re-platformed as a managed cloud service and integrated to EC via point-to-point replication. Master data flows from EC → ECP, payroll posts results back to S/4HANA or ECC FI, and bank files are produced per country.
This is why ECP is attractive for SAP HCM customers: the proven country payroll logic is preserved, but the platform, infrastructure and patching are run by SAP.
Multi-country payroll: EU, UAE and KSA
EC localises master data per country via MDF; ECP brings country-specific payroll calculation, statutory reporting and bank file generation. We focus on three regions:
Country payrolls including Germany (PY-DE), with statutory reporting, SEPA bank files and works-council friendly process design.
WPS-compliant salary files, End-of-Service Benefit (EOSB) accruals and GPSSA contributions for UAE/GCC nationals.
GOSI contributions, Mudad-ready WPS files, Saudisation (Nitaqat) reporting and Hijri calendar handling.
Getting started with EC at Sun-Tape
We help SAP HCM customers plan and execute the move to Employee Central — scoping the data model, country localisations, EC ↔ ECP integration and adoption. Whether you need a greenfield EC implementation, ECP enablement or ongoing run & optimise, we engage with a small senior team and a clear roadmap.
